Jangseong-gun Operates 'On-site Technical Support Team' for Cereal and Onion Farmers
Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 19th that it will operate an on-site technical support team until the 27th in accordance with the growth regeneration period of winter crops such as cereals and onions.
The growth regeneration period refers to the time when new roots sprout and crops that had stopped growing during winter begin to grow again. It is considered the growth regeneration period when the average temperature stays above 0℃ for more than four consecutive days.
Jangseong-gun will operate an on-site technical support team until the 27th, in accordance with the growth regeneration period of barley and onions.

Until January this year, the average temperature in the Jangseong area was 1.5℃, and the minimum temperature was -3.0℃. This is more than 1℃ higher than the average year, so the growth regeneration period started from mid-February.
Since the 13th, the county has dispatched the on-site technical support team to farms to provide guidance on fertilizer usage, soil management, and pest and disease control techniques.
Crops in the growth regeneration period require a large amount of nutrients. For cereals, 9 to 12 kg of urea per 10 are (a) is applied to promote root vitality, and barley trampling (compaction) work is done to prevent frost damage and crop lodging.
For onions, 17 kg of urea and 8 kg of potassium chloride per 10 are are applied according to the growth condition, and pest control is conducted between late this month and early next month to prevent downy mildew.
A county official said, “Cereals and onions need to pass through the growth regeneration period well to harvest high-quality crops,” adding, “We will actively provide on-site technical support to ensure essential management methods are well disseminated to farmers.”
Meanwhile, the cereal sowing area in Jangseong-gun currently stands at 266.6 hectares (ha), an increase of more than 22% compared to the previous year.
This is the result of focusing on cultivating alternative crops in preparation for the decline in rice prices. On the 6th, a domestic wheat cultivation technology training session was also held together with the Rural Development Administration.
