Naju-si Promotes Park Golf Course Construction Project... Target Completion by September Next Year

Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Yoon Byung-tae) announced on the 19th that it is promoting a park golf course construction project with a total of 63 holes at Nam-pyeong Jiseokcheon and Anchang-dong Yeongsangang idle land, aiming for completion by September next year.

Park golf, a lifestyle sport that first started in Hokkaido, Japan in 1984, is a form of golf that can be enjoyed in a park, as the name suggests. The game is played by hitting a ball and putting it into the hole on the grass with the fewest strokes to win.

The game format is similar to golf but differs in that multiple golf clubs are not needed.

With just one club, players can perform both shots and putting, making the equipment simpler compared to golf.

Above all, the field is not wide, allowing players to walk without straining their joints and gain aerobic exercise benefits. Its accessibility in urban areas has made it explosively popular among all age groups, especially the elderly.

The park golf courses will be constructed on a total area of 107,000㎡, with 36 holes at Nam-pyeong Jiseokcheon (Seosan-ri 93, Namseok-ri 702 area) and 27 holes at Anchang-dong (Anchang-dong 446 area).

The total project cost is 6 billion KRW (1.8 billion KRW from the provincial government and 4.2 billion KRW from the city government).

Since issuing the detailed design service order in August last year, the city has visited the Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office several times for consultations and is currently undergoing administrative procedures for river occupancy permits, aiming to start construction in August.

Additionally, since last year, the city has held meetings with two local resident councils and the Naju City Park Golf Association to gather opinions from actual users, and on the 5th, it conducted a report and received feedback on the project from the city council.

The city expects to firmly establish its image as a host city for various sports competitions, including cycling, shooting, athletics, squash, and baseball (club competitions), by creating a park golf course capable of hosting national tournaments.

Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said, “Nam-pyeong Jiseokcheon and the Yeongsangang area have a natural ecological landscape suitable for a premium park golf course, which will greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy by attracting park golf tourists. We will do our best to ensure the park golf course is completed quickly as a space for residents to communicate and heal while taking care of their health and friendship.”
