National Marathoner Lee Bong-ju Appointed as Ambassador for April Yangcheon Marathon Event

Yangcheon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced on the morning of the 16th that it held an appointment ceremony at the district office meeting room and appointed Lee Bong-ju as the ambassador for the ‘2024 Yangcheon Marathon’ to be held on April 27 this year.
Lee Bong-ju is a national marathoner who won the silver medal in the marathon at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, gold medals at the 1998 and 2002 Asian Games, and victories at prestigious international competitions such as the 2001 Boston Marathon and the 2007 Seoul International Marathon.
The district plans to enhance the status of the event as a nationwide competition and deliver a message of hope to citizens by appointing Lee Bong-ju, who has long inspired hope and emotion to the public, as the official ambassador for the ‘2024 Yangcheon Marathon.’
On the day of the marathon, Lee will communicate with participants through an on-site fan signing event and encourage marathon finishers. A promotional video featuring Lee for the ‘Yangcheon Marathon’ will be produced and posted on the district office and event registration websites to encourage participation from marathon enthusiasts nationwide.
This year marks the 13th edition of the event, which will add event courses such as a 10km couple run and a 5km family run to the existing half marathon, 10km, and 5km races. To participate, applicants must register on a first-come, first-served basis through the dedicated website by April 2.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “Having marathon national hero Lee Bong-ju join this event, which gathers marathoners from across the country, feels like gaining a great advantage.” He added, “I hope the spirit of the marathon?embodying values such as endurance, perseverance, challenge, and passion?will be widely shared through this Yangcheon Marathon.”
