Zuckerberg: "670,000 Won Meta Headset Better Than 4,700,000 Won Vision Pro"
"Testing Apple Products for Several Days: The Conclusion"
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, competing with Apple in the mixed reality (MR) headset market, praised his company's product as much better than Apple's Vision Pro.
On the 13th (local time), Zuckerberg posted a video on his social media platform Instagram comparing Apple's Vision Pro and Meta's MR headset 'Quest 3,' making these remarks. The base model of Quest 3 is priced at $499 (about 670,000 KRW), roughly one-seventh the price of the Vision Pro base model ($3,499, about 4.68 million KRW).
Zuckerberg said, "I thought Quest was very good and, because it costs one-seventh of the (Vision Pro), it would offer better value for most people. However, after using the (Vision Pro), I no longer think Quest just offers good value for the price. Quest is a better product (than Vision Pro)."
He went on to claim that Quest has advantages over Vision Pro, including ▲a brighter screen ▲a wider field of view ▲more immersive content ▲no attached cables ▲lighter weight ▲and better hand-tracking capabilities. In particular, he emphasized, "We designed Quest to be 120g lighter than (Vision Pro), and it makes a huge difference when worn on the face."
While acknowledging that Vision Pro has a higher screen resolution than Quest, he said, "That's very good," but also pointed out, "I was surprised at how much they had to compromise on device quality, convenience, ergonomics, other aspects of the display, and screen artifacts to achieve that (high resolution)." However, he noted, "(Vision Pro's) eye-tracking feature is really good," adding that similar features existed in previous Quest models and will be included again in future releases.
Zuckerberg emphasized again, "When you look around, many people just assume that because Vision Pro is from Apple and costs $3,000 (about 4 million KRW) more (than Meta Quest), it must be of higher quality. But honestly, I was very surprised that despite this price difference, Quest is much better for the majority of uses people have for these headsets."

He also mocked Apple’s enthusiastic fans, saying, "I know some fans get angry if anyone dares to question whether Apple will be the leader in this new product category." He added, "But the reality is that every generation of computing has had open and closed models. In mobile, Apple's closed model won, but it’s not always the case. Looking back at the PC era, Microsoft's open model was the winner." He continued, "Right now, Meta is the open model. And I really hope the open model wins again. The future is still undecided."

Meta entered the virtual reality (VR) headset market in 2006 with the 'Oculus Rift.' Since then, it has steadily released the Quest series of headsets, pioneering the market. The 'Quest 3,' which Zuckerberg compared to Apple's Vision Pro, was released last October.
