Jeju Fire Station, Fire Safety Inspection Results... 536 Administrative Actions Taken
Jeju Fire Station (Chief Yang Young-seok) announced on the 14th that, according to the analysis of the 2023 fire safety inspection performance, out of a total of 1,196 inspection targets, 204 were found to be deficient, and 536 administrative actions were taken, marking a decrease of 483 cases (47.4%) compared to the previous year (2022).

This result is analyzed to be due to the shift in the inspection approach from quantitative inspections aimed at improving the safety awareness of related parties through legal actions on violations to safety consulting-type inspections that strengthen the autonomous safety management system.
In particular, last year’s customized safety inspections, which reflected social issues such as fires occurring by period and theme and emphasized selection and concentration, are believed to have played a significant role in enhancing the safety awareness of the related parties.
Regarding the detailed results of the fire safety inspections by usage, out of a total of 1,196 sites, inspections were mainly conducted on facilities used by an unspecified large number of people, including ▲ neighborhood living facilities 479 sites (40%) ▲ complex buildings 191 sites (15.8%) ▲ lodging facilities 118 sites (9.9%).
Among the 536 deficiencies, the number of defective fire safety facilities was analyzed to be highest in the order of ▲ sprinkler systems 97 cases (18%) ▲ automatic fire detection systems 95 cases (17.7%) ▲ evacuation and fire prevention facilities 62 cases (11.6%).
“Fire safety inspection” refers to a series of activities such as on-site inspections, document reviews, and report requests conducted by fire agencies under the Fire Prevention Act (abbreviated) to verify whether fire safety facilities are installed and managed in accordance with relevant laws and regulations in fire target objects, related areas, or related persons within their jurisdiction, and to check if there is a risk of fire occurrence in the fire target objects.
Jeju Fire Station established a Fire Safety Inspection Team in May 2023 to conduct professional fire safety inspections, focusing on increasing the efficiency of inspections by augmenting specialized and dedicated personnel.
In particular, last year, the focus was not only on simple inspections but also on providing more professional fire safety consulting to enable related parties to independently prepare and manage optimal fire safety measures suitable for each facility.
Chief Yang Young-seok said, “Fire safety inspection is an important step to prevent the possibility of fire occurrence in advance,” and added, “We will supplement the problems and improvement plans derived from this fire safety inspection analysis and reflect them in future inspections, doing our best to create a safe fire prevention environment.”
