"Enjoying Neighborhood Outings from the Car"…A Preview of Kia PBV Usage Methods
Kia held an awards ceremony for its Purpose-Built Vehicle (PBV) diverse utilization ideas contest. Innovative ideas such as neighborhood community-activated shared mobility and PBV usage accessible for wheelchair users received honors.
On the 14th, Kia hosted the '2nd PBV Ideas Contest Awards Ceremony' at Kia EV Unplugged Ground Seongsu. Key officials including Kim Sang-dae, Head of Kia PBV Business Division, and Kang Joo-yeop, Head of Kia New Business Planning Office, attended the event.
This contest was conducted to identify the diverse needs of consumers using vehicles in daily life and business and to apply them to actual PBV development. Over 600 various ideas were submitted in two categories?Lifestyle and Business?over about a month starting last November.
Kia formed a panel of experts in related fields to comprehensively evaluate the creativity, feasibility, marketability, and concreteness of the ideas. A total of eight winning teams were selected: two Grand Prize winners, two Excellence Award winners, and four Merit Award winners.
The Grand Prize in the Lifestyle category was awarded to the Dorim team for proposing 'Neighborhood Community-Activated Shared Mobility.' Their idea involved utilizing Kia’s mid-sized PBV PV5, which features a spacious interior that can be converted into various forms such as sitting or standing depending on the situation, for local community gatherings. The concept of using the vehicle not merely as a means of transportation but as a space earned high praise from the judges.
The Grand Prize in the Business category went to the For All team for their proposal of a 'Multi-purpose Mobility Service Based on a Wheelchair-Accessible PBV.' They envisioned a mobility business model that allows transportation-vulnerable individuals using wheelchairs to board freely and can be used for various purposes such as airport taxis, pet taxis, and cargo loading as needed. The judges highly evaluated the concreteness and marketability of this idea.
