Man and Woman Arrested for Killing 20-Day-Old Baby and Abandoning Body in Jehubdo Bushes
A man and a woman who left a baby about 20 days old in a car trunk, causing the baby's death, and then abandoned the body have been arrested by the police.
The Hwaseong Western Police Station in Gyeonggi announced on the 8th that they have urgently detained and are investigating a woman in her 30s, Ms. A, and a man in his 40s, Mr. B, on charges of infanticide and corpse abandonment. They are suspected of giving birth to a baby boy at a hospital in Yongin on December 29 last year, placing the baby in a car trunk, and after the baby died, abandoning the body in the bushes on Jebudo Island in Seosin-myeon, Hwaseong City, in the early morning of the 21st of last month.
On the morning of the 6th at around 10:50 a.m., the police responded to a report from a citizen who was taking a walk on Jebudo Island, stating that there was an object presumed to be an infant's body in the bushes. The baby's body was wrapped in a sack, showed no external injuries, and was reported not to have undergone decomposition. The police arrested Ms. A and Mr. B at a motel in Yongin at 6:20 p.m. on the following day, the 7th. Ms. A confessed, saying, "I committed the crime because I was not in a position to raise the baby," while Mr. B denied the crime, stating, "I don't know anything about it."
The police are considering applying for an arrest warrant on charges of general murder rather than infanticide. Murder charges generally carry heavier sentences than infanticide, which is a mitigated offense considering various circumstances. The police have requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to investigate the cause of death of the baby.
