Police Agency Operates 'Election Crime Investigation Situation Room' Ahead of April General Election
The National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters will establish and operate 'Election Crime Investigation Situation Rooms' at 278 police stations nationwide starting from the 7th, in preparation for the '22nd National Assembly Election' to be held on April 10.
With the National Assembly election just over two months away, the police plan to strengthen crime intelligence collection and prepare thoroughly against various illegal election activities by establishing a 24-hour response system centered on the Election Crime Investigation Situation Rooms.
Yoon Hee-geun, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, is presiding over a meeting at the Election Crime Investigation Situation Room established in the National Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency on the 7th.

First, ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, they will closely monitor acts such as bribery disguised as holiday gifts, pre-election campaigning under the guise of holiday greetings, and the spread of false information including black propaganda on social networking services (SNS). Until candidate registration, they will focus on cracking down on illegal activities related to internal party primaries, including illegal recruitment of party members.
Additionally, in connection with the 'Election Safety Measures' announced last week, if acts such as assault or threats occur to disrupt election campaigns during the election campaign period after candidate registration, they plan to investigate these with strong intensity.
Regarding the significant public concern over 'election campaigning using deepfake videos,' the Cyber Investigation Unit of the city and provincial police agencies, equipped with specialized investigative capabilities, will conduct direct investigations.
