Democratic Party Begins Practical Preparations for Opposition Alliance Party Formation
Official "First Meeting Scheduled as Early as This Afternoon"
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, has settled on maintaining the 'semi-proportional representation system' for electoral reform, prompting the Democratic Party to begin practical preparations for the establishment of a 'unified proportional representation party.' The plan is to secure proportional representation seats by forming an alliance with opposition parties in the progressive camp.
A Democratic Party official stated on the 6th, "We are starting practical preparations for the establishment of a unified proportional representation party led by the Democratic Party," adding, "We plan to hold internal preparatory meetings." Another official said, "The first meeting is scheduled for this afternoon."

This indicates a plan to effectively promote a satellite party through the format of the opposition alliance called the 'Democratic Reform Election Coalition.'

By building an opposition force that supports the 'government judgment theory' under the banner of the Democratic Reform Election Coalition, it is expected to be a step toward establishing a unified proportional representation party. The Democratic Party is expected to form a separate organization such as the 'Unified Proportional Representation Party Establishment Promotion Committee' after practical preparations to implement this plan. Once the promotion committee is established, it is anticipated that discussions necessary for the party's formation will continue with participation from Democratic Party members, the Green Justice Party, the Progressive Party, the 'New Progressive Alliance,' as well as progressive civic groups.
