Gyeongsang National University Designated as a 'Specialized Regional University'
Comprehensive Support from the Ministry of Education Including Subsidies, Regulatory Improvements, and Cross-Ministerial and Local Government Investment Inducement
Gyeongsang National University announced on the 6th that it has been designated as a ‘Specialized Local University’ by the Ministry of Education.
The Ministry of Education designated glocal universities as Specialized Local Universities under Article 17 of the 「Act on the Promotion of Local Universities and Balanced Regional Human Resources Development」 and Article 11 of the Enforcement Decree of the same Act, to promote co-growth between regions and universities through bold innovation linked to regional development strategies, and to lead innovation in all universities within the region.
As Gyeongsang National University has been designated as a Specialized Local University, it will receive comprehensive support from the Ministry of Education, including ▲glocal university subsidies ▲promotion of regulatory improvements ▲inducement of investments from multiple ministries and local governments.
Since being selected as a glocal university, Gyeongsang National University has been breaking down barriers inside and outside the university, domestically and internationally, and is pursuing bold and daring leaps based on co-growth between the region and the university through partnerships with the local community and industry.
In particular, Gyeongsang National University is promoting the glocal project through four major strategies: openness and innovation, coexistence and cooperation, linkage and synergy, and selection and concentration.
Specifically, openness and innovation mean innovating in a shared and open manner by benchmarking and cooperating with Gyeongnam’s local government, industry, academia, research institutes, public institutions, and military, as well as advanced domestic and international universities, industries, and research parks (in the United States and France).
Coexistence and cooperation refer to fostering mutual growth and collaboration with Gyeongsangnam-do, aerospace-related institutions and companies, KAI, the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, including local government, industry, academia, research institutes, public institutions, and military, as well as national flagship national universities and regional universities.
Linkage and synergy involve investing glocal university finances as seed money for government and local government projects and maximizing the effect of linked support with other government projects.
Selection and concentration plan to focus on strategic industries in Gyeongnam and invest intensively in software (talent development/planning) rather than infrastructure (facilities/equipment).
