LIG Nex1 Participates in Middle East Comprehensive Defense Exhibition 'WDS 2024'
Showcasing Locally Optimized Air Defense Systems and Integrated Land, Sea, and Air Solutions
LIG Nex1 has launched an offensive in the Middle Eastern market by showcasing comprehensive solutions ranging from precision-guided weapons and surveillance reconnaissance equipment to unmanned complex systems in air defense systems.
LIG Nex1 announced on the 5th that it participated in the Middle East comprehensive defense industry exhibition ‘WDS 2024 (World Defense Show)’ held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, for five days starting from the 4th.
Started in 2022, Saudi WDS is a representative comprehensive defense exhibition in the Middle East, with about 900 companies from 45 countries participating this year. Setting the Middle East as one of its strategic markets and conducting order marketing including participation in overseas exhibitions, LIG Nex1 plans to significantly strengthen its export business with various products and technologies optimized for the local environment.
At this exhibition, LIG Nex1 introduced the medium-range, medium-altitude surface-to-air interception system ‘Cheongung II’ to respond to ballistic missile and aircraft attacks, and the ‘Long-range Artillery Interception System’ that protects important facilities and personnel from long-range artillery threats.
It also covered various air defense weapon systems capable of multi-layered air defense, including the portable surface-to-air guided weapon ‘Shingung’ and long-range surface-to-air guided weapons.
Advanced weapon systems optimized for local air defense, ground, and maritime environments such as the Counter-Battery Radar-II, Korean GPS-guided bomb ‘KGGB’, 2.75-inch Euro Rocket ‘Bigung’, and infantry mid-range guided weapon ‘Hyeongung’ were also introduced.
Cheongung II is a medium-range/medium-altitude surface-to-air interception system developed to simultaneously respond to ballistic missile and aircraft attacks. Ballistic missile interception systems are cutting-edge equipment developed successfully only by some advanced countries worldwide, and Cheongung II incorporates the latest engagement control, tracking, and guided missile design/control technologies.
The long-range artillery interception system, which detects, tracks, and intercepts multiple high-speed long-range artillery shells in the shortest time, and the long-range surface-to-air guided weapon that intercepts enemy aircraft and ballistic missiles at long distances and high altitudes, are also receiving high attention as core forces of the Korean missile defense system.
Additionally, LIG Nex1, together with Hyundai Rotem, is conducting a joint promotion by introducing a manned-unmanned complex solution that combines guided weapons and anti-drone systems for each mission type on an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) platform.
Based on the technological expertise accumulated through advanced weapon system development projects, LIG Nex1 has continuously conducted research and investment in manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T) systems and plans to lead the rapidly expanding future warfare market through strategic cooperation with Hyundai Rotem, a domestic platform specialist company.
