Chairman Lee's Comment on the First Trial Not Guilty Verdict
Economic organizations such as the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Korea Employers Federation, and the Korea International Trade Association announced on the 5th that they actively welcome the first trial acquittal of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong regarding the Samsung C&T-Cheil Industries merger case.
Kang Seok-gu, head of the investigation department at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said on the day, "We actively welcome the first trial ruling that acquitted Chairman Lee in the Samsung C&T-Cheil Industries merger case."
Head Kang added, "The ruling is expected to greatly help our companies' global competition to secure leadership in advanced industries and our economy, which is just beginning to recover."
The Korea Employers Federation stated, "The business community respects the court's judgment and is relieved that the suspicions and misunderstandings raised so far have been resolved through the ruling."
They continued, "We expect the Samsung Group to break free from management uncertainties caused by judicial risks and to further devote itself to national economic development through active investment and job creation."

On the same day, Chairman Lee was acquitted in the first trial of charges related to the illegal succession of Samsung's management rights. This came about three years and five months after the indictment.
