Gwangju Shinsegae, Eyeing Co-Growth Through Local Brand Market Expansion
Gwangju Shinsegae Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Dong-hoon) is drawing attention by engaging in mutual growth, such as helping local brands as a local corporation to develop sales channels in celebration of the holidays.
Since its establishment as a local corporation in Gwangju in 1995, Gwangju Shinsegae has been making various efforts to revitalize sales of local brands in order to coexist with the region.
An example is Bohae Brewery’s ‘Maechwisun’ gift set introduced this Lunar New Year. Bohae Brewery, established in 1950, is a local brand based in Mokpo.
Gwangju Shinsegae is offering five types of Maechwisun gift sets, a plum wine made from plums from Haenam, at reasonable prices in the Food Market on the basement first floor.
Maechwisun is a plum wine produced by Bohae Brewery, which has been producing plum wine for 41 years since 1982. It is characterized by aging plum extract for at least five years to savor the deep and rich aroma of plums. Maechwisun, made from the highest quality plums produced at Haenam Bohae Plum Orchard, which boasts the largest scale in Korea with about 140,000 pyeong, has established itself as a steady seller of premium plum wine for holiday gifts.
Representative holiday gift products include Pure Gold Maechwisun (2 bottles, 700ml), which contains over 99% pure gold powder, priced at 35,000 KRW, and Maechwisun 12 Years (3,000ml), which is especially good for gifting due to its overwhelming size of 3 liters, priced at 48,000 KRW.
Additionally, the highest premium product in the Maechwisun line, the 15-year aged Maechwisun exclusive glass package (3 bottles, 375ml), is available for 23,000 KRW, offering an exclusive glass at a reasonable price.
Other options include Maechwisun 10 Years (3 bottles, 500ml) for 24,000 KRW and the Original 5 Years (375ml, 3 bottles) for 15,000 KRW.
In this way, Gwangju Shinsegae continues to serve as a channel to expand sales routes for local small business owners by hosting promising local stores.
Gwangju Shinsegae has attracted promising brands in the Gwangju area such as ‘Unhyeongung,’ a traditional Korean bedding set manufacturer in Yangdong Market, ‘Yangdong Chicken,’ ‘Somak Bakery,’ and ‘Yukgak Coffee,’ and has continued mutual growth with local brands in Gwangju and Jeonnam by hosting businesses like the dessert cafe ‘Kitchen205’ in Hampyeong.
CEO Lee Dong-hoon said, “We are considering various ways to serve as a channel to expand sales routes for local brands,” and added, “This holiday season, we hope you express your gratitude with gift sets from local brands introduced by Gwangju Shinsegae.”
