[One Day Walk] Dreaming of Peace on Gyeonggi Dullegil Yeoncheon Course 11
24.6km from Gunnam Flood Control Reservoir to Sintanri Station
Gyeonggi Dullegil Course 11 is a 24.6 km trail that connects Gunnam Flood Control Reservoir to Sintan-ri Station. It takes 8 hours and 20 minutes to complete. The difficulty level is moderate, but since it takes quite a long time, it is recommended to start early in the morning or split the walk into two sessions.
From Yeoncheon Station bus stop on the Gyeongwon Line, you can take a bus for about 30 minutes to get off at Seongok-ri Village Hall stop. From here, walk towards the Gunnam Flood Control Reservoir Durumi Theme Park to meet the starting point of this trail. If you are lucky, you can see the scene of water being released from the dam at Gunnam Flood Control Reservoir. You can also capture photos of cranes living in this area flying by.
Walking along the path that meets the hills, you can see Greetingman, a new symbol of Yeoncheon. It is a giant 10-meter tall sculpture erected by Yeoncheon County and sculptor Yoo Young-ho on Oknyobong in Gunnam-myeon. It embodies wishes for peace, harmony, and communication.
Descending along the gentle hill curves, you will reach Sinmang-ri Station. Sinmang-ri was a settlement established by the United States for war refugees. The name comes from the fact that it was called "New Hope Town." Sinmang-ri Station is now a simple station where trains no longer stop. It is nice to stand on the platform with a heart waiting for peace rather than a train. The railroad and surrounding scenery create wonderful photo zones that you can capture while walking this trail.
From Sinmang-ri Station, passing Daegwang-ri Station, to Sintan-ri Station, you walk along Chatancheon Stream. It is a path shared by pedestrians and bicycles. Chatancheon originates from the northern valley of Geumhak Mountain in Cheorwon County, flows through Yeoncheon County, and enters the Hantan River at Jeongok-eup, covering 37 km. The pure Korean name for Chatancheon is Sureyeoul. There is a story that during the Joseon Dynasty, when King Taejong was a prince, he went to visit a friend who was in seclusion opposing the founding of Joseon, and the palanquin fell into this water.

Sintan-ri Station is a station where the Gyeongwon Line train, which transported people and goods before the Korean War in 1950, stopped. It is located 88.8 km from Yongsan and 131.7 km from Wonsan, North Korea. The sign marking the southern terminus of the Gyeongwon Line railway carries the pain of division. The iron horse longs to run.
