Various Efforts to Enhance Single-Person Household Experience Including KakaoTalk Channel Operation and Public Project Promotion
Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) has established the '2024 Comprehensive Support Plan for Single-Person Households' in response to the increase in single-person households and is actively investing 12.6 billion KRW this year to support them.
The proportion of single-person households in Gwanak-gu steadily increased each year: 59.9% in 2021, 61.3% in 2022, and 62.1% in 2023. This is among the highest nationwide and the highest among Seoul’s autonomous districts.
Accordingly, the district conducted a survey on single-person households to accurately understand the growing population and to prepare mid- to long-term support measures, followed by the establishment of a comprehensive support plan.
With the goal of “Happy Gwanak Walking Together with Single-Person Households,” the plan covers four areas?housing and employment, safety, health and care, and social network formation?implementing 46 detailed projects.
First, to enhance the economic satisfaction of single-person households, housing and employment services are strengthened, including ▲Safe Jeonse and monthly rent contract assistance service and ▲reinforcement of staff at the Gwanak-gu Job Center.
A housing safety manager provides the “Safe Jeonse and Monthly Rent Contract Assistance Service,” which offers counseling related to rental fraud and accompanies residents when viewing or signing contracts to alleviate housing-related anxieties. A dedicated counselor at the Job Center offers customized employment support services to assist single-person households in their job search activities.
Additionally, to protect single-person households vulnerable to crime, efforts are made to create a safe living environment through ▲Safe Alleyway Design Projects and ▲support for safety equipment for single-person households.
Two additional safe alleyways will be created at Sillim Station Sundae Town and Seoul National University Entrance Station Sharosugil. Four types of safety equipment, including smart doorbells and home CCTV, will be provided to single-person households vulnerable to crime to ensure their safety.
Furthermore, to promote healthy living even when alone, a physical and emotional health care system is established through ▲free health checkups for young single-person households and ▲happy meal sharing for middle-aged single-person households.
Free health checkups for young single-person households help maintain their health. For 400 middle-aged single-person households at high risk of solitary death, meal kits and fermented milk products are delivered twice a week to regularly check on their well-being and prevent solitary deaths.
Alongside this, opportunities for social interaction and communication are provided through ▲pilot projects for solitary death prevention and management and ▲single-person household support centers to maintain social relationships.
Community care groups and socially isolated at-risk households will participate together in programs such as kimchi-making and sharing, and cooking classes to alleviate loneliness and build social networks within the community.
To improve accessibility to Gwanak-gu’s single-person household support projects, a KakaoTalk channel is operated, and a Gwanak-style single-person household support public contest project will be promoted in cooperation with private organizations.
