Hapcheon-gun Holds Strategy Meeting to Address Population Decline
Operation of Local Extinction Response Task Force to Overcome Regional Extinction Crisis
Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 1st that it held a Local Extinction Response Promotion Team meeting chaired by Vice-Gun Chief Lee Seon-gi in the small conference room of the county office.
The meeting was promoted to actively respond to the increasingly serious population issues, such as the number of births in Hapcheon-gun falling to an all-time low and the natural decrease rapidly increasing every year.
At the meeting, various discussions were held to respond to population decline, including reports on the progress of major projects related to population policies, future plans of the promotion team, and the discovery of new projects to attract population inflow.
In particular, attendees agreed on the necessity to prepare measures for the inflow and settlement of a new population concept called ‘living population’ due to the limitations of policies aimed only at increasing the registered resident population.
Based on this meeting, the county plans to develop major tasks by sector and establish the ‘Hapcheon-gun Comprehensive Promotion Plan to Maintain a Population of 40,000’ to actively respond to population inflow.
Additionally, the county intends to regularly operate the Local Extinction Response Promotion Team meetings and working-level task forces to build a cooperative system among departments and comprehensively manage population policies that have been individually promoted by each sector.
