The corporate information platform JobPlanet revealed the 'worst reviews' left by employees about their companies in the second half of last year. Although the Workplace Harassment Prohibition Act was enacted in 2019 and four years have passed, it was pointed out that sexist remarks and other inappropriate behaviors still run rampant in the field.
On the 30th, JobPlanet selected the 'Legend of Legend Reviews' through the '2nd Job Spring Literary Contest.' In the category 'Loss of Humanity,' which highlights reviews about inhumane companies, the review mentioning the grandfather's death as 'no big deal' was chosen as number one (131 votes, 51.2%).
Following that, reviews stating "An official notice came down saying to take turns getting pregnant" and "There was a fire nearby, but (the boss) told me to guard the store, so I inhaled smoke" ranked second and third, respectively.
There was also a category called 'Our CEO X Jinsang' that satirized the outrageous behavior of company representatives. The revelation that "The CEO tried to borrow money from employees" received 122 votes and was named the worst 'outrageous act.' Cases of personal errands unrelated to work, such as cleaning the chairman's villa and moving furniture and artworks in the chairman's wife's private room, followed.
The category 'Saving to Get Rich' featuring reviews about stingy company CEOs also drew attention. The top review was "At the year-end party, they gave a cafeteria meal ticket inside a department store gift certificate envelope" (127 votes, 49.6%). Next was "Although there was only coffee mix in the pantry, they made us count how many cups we drank daily and find out who drank the most," ranking second (91 votes, 35.5%), and "Even paper cups had to be requested one by one from the management department that handles supplies," ranking third (88 votes, 34.4%).
There were also reports of serious sexual harassment. In the 'Cheolkeong Cheolkeong Award' category, disclosures included "Sales department managers played lunch games guessing the color of female employees' underwear," and "Only female employees were called to a workshop to hula hoop in front of the chairman." It was even reported, "I saw a supervisor sexually harassingly comment, 'She seems good at taking off (clothes),' after watching a female employee undress a doll."
JobPlanet stated, "Sexual harassment in the workplace, such as the reviews selected for the Cheolkeong Cheolkeong Award, is a serious criminal act," and added, "If anyone is experiencing related harm, they can report the incident anonymously through the Ministry of Employment and Labor's anonymous reporting center."
Previously, JobPlanet selected category candidates from 210,378 reviews submitted to JobPlanet over six months from July to December last year. Then, from the 12th to the 19th, 256 employees subscribed to the JobPlanet newsletter 'Company Times' participated in voting (multiple responses allowed).
Meanwhile, there is also a result showing that employees who have experienced workplace harassment have higher levels of depression. This is based on a survey conducted by the civic group Workplace Bullying 119, commissioned to the public opinion research firm Embrain Public, targeting 1,000 employees from December 4 to 11 last year to check their mental state (depression) over the past two weeks.
The results showed that the average depression scale score of employees was 5.62 points, indicating that they generally experienced depressive symptoms. Among them, respondents who experienced workplace harassment had an average depression scale score of 8.23 points.
