Busan City held a progress briefing session for the ‘BNK Busan Bank 2024 Busan World Table Tennis Championships’ at 10 a.m. on the 26th in the city hall's main conference room.
Presided over by Lee Joon-seung, the city's Deputy Mayor for Administration, this briefing was organized to conduct a final check on the preparations for the successful hosting of the ‘BNK Busan Bank 2024 Busan World Table Tennis Championships’.
About 30 officials from related organizations, including the city government, the event organizing committee, fire department, police, education office, and Busan Tourism Organization, attended the briefing.
During the session, comprehensive progress on the event was finally reviewed, covering traffic and transportation measures, safety, accommodation, tourism marketing, and publicity, while discussing cooperation plans among various agencies and departments ahead of this large-scale mega international sports event.
In particular, as more than 10,000 domestic and international spectators are expected to visit Busan daily, including over 2,000 athletes and officials from 47 countries, the briefing aimed to thoroughly inspect accommodation, transportation, lodging measures, and safety management, with plans to supplement any shortcomings.
Deputy Mayor Lee Joon-seung emphasized, “Our city has experience successfully hosting large-scale international events such as the Asian Games and APEC. Through thorough pre-inspections and organic cooperation among the organizing committee, agencies, and departments, we will strive to ensure that participants and spectators of the Busan World Table Tennis Championships can stay in Busan comfortably, safely, and enjoyably.”
The ‘BNK Busan Bank 2024 Busan World Table Tennis Championships,’ held under the slogan ‘one table one world,’ will take place at BEXCO from February 16 to 25, attracting the attention of 1.1 billion table tennis enthusiasts worldwide.
This tournament is the most prestigious event in the sport of table tennis and holds special significance as the first international sports event hosted in Busan, commemorating 100 years of Korean table tennis.
Also, as a large-scale international sports event held in Busan for the first time in 20 years since the 2002 Busan Asian Games, it is expected to create an atmosphere where not only domestic and international table tennis fans but also all Busan citizens can enjoy together, expanding the base of lifestyle sports such as table tennis and serving as a platform for international sports exchange.
