'Local Universities Are Competitiveness'... Bucheon City Establishes 'University Cooperation Team' to Seek Mutual Growth
Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province is establishing a 'University Cooperation Team' to promote mutual development between the local community and universities.
The city announced on the 26th that it created the University Cooperation Team through an organizational restructuring effective from the 1st, aiming to build an organic cooperation system with universities and to promote university support projects centered on regional innovation.
The University Cooperation Team plans to carry out various projects to develop universities and the local community, including exploring ways for mutual growth between the region and universities, serving as a communication channel between the city and universities, revitalizing university cooperation projects, and discovering university support projects focused on regional innovation. On the 4th, a meeting was held with local universities to strengthen mutual cooperation commitments.
In response to rapid industrial structural changes in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution and population decline in local areas, which have brought crises to regions and universities, the government is shifting from a central government-led approach to a region-led approach, aiming to create an ecosystem for mutual growth between regions and universities.
Jo Yong-ik, Mayor of Bucheon, stated, "In this era of crisis caused by declining local and school-age populations, the expertise and specialization of local universities are the city's competitiveness," adding, "We will actively support university innovation and work harder to ensure that universities and the region cooperate to overcome the local crisis era."
