Gangdong-gu, Newly Designated as a Women-Friendly City in 2023
Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Soo-hee) was newly designated as a Women-Friendly City in 2023.
On the 23rd, the district signed an agreement with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family to create a Women-Friendly City at the '2023 Women-Friendly City Government Award Ceremony and Agreement Ceremony' hosted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
Last year, Gangdong-gu received favorable evaluations by submitting over 20 projects, including ▲creation of women-friendly learning-type jobs ▲a hospital and clinic employment linkage project connecting small and medium-sized hospitals and clinics facing severe labor shortages with women who have experienced career interruptions ▲creation of safe return paths for women to prevent crime.
With this new designation, the district will receive support for private cooperation and consulting in various fields such as ▲work-life balance ▲women's employment ▲family care for the next five years. Additionally, the district plans to establish a five-year (2024?2028) mid- to long-term implementation plan for creating a Women-Friendly City, form a private consultative body to support women's employment, and strengthen interdepartmental cooperation systems according to the five major goals of a Women-Friendly City (▲establishing a foundation for gender equality ▲expanding women's economic and social participation ▲enhancing community safety ▲creating a family-friendly (care) environment ▲strengthening women's community activity capabilities), actively discovering and promoting related policies.

Lee Soo-hee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, “Gangdong-gu is a city that has obtained certifications as a Child-Friendly City, Family-Friendly City, and Women-Friendly City, and has achieved the highest total fertility rate in Seoul for two consecutive years.” She added, “We will continue to do our best to create a city where everyone can live well by expanding safe return path projects and supporting the safety of women in their daily lives.”
