Audio Files of Key Newsletter Pages Produced for Visually Impaired, Low Vision, and Elderly... Available on Geumcheon-gu Official YouTube Channel Every 25th of the Month, the Newsletter Release Date
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that from the February 2024 issue, the newsletter "Geumcheon Hyanggi" will be available as audio files on Geumcheon-gu's official YouTube channel.
The existing newsletter included a voice conversion output code called "Voice Eye" at the top right corner for visually impaired individuals. However, it was somewhat inconvenient as users had to separately install a reader app and scan the information pattern (QR code) on each page.
The district will produce audio content of the main pages of the newsletter so that not only the visually impaired but also those with low vision and the elderly can easily access district information. The audio newsletter will be posted on Geumcheon-gu Office's official YouTube channel on the 25th of each month, coinciding with the print newsletter release.
The audio newsletter, produced with an artificial intelligence (AI) voice actor, will be available starting from the February 2024 issue (published on January 25). Scanning the information pattern (QR code) at the top of the newsletter cover will direct users to the YouTube channel.
The district plans to further enhance information accessibility by sharing the YouTube link when delivering the newsletter to subscribers of the text notification service and KakaoTalk channel.
Meanwhile, since 2015, the district has been producing magnifier board newsletters with double the size (A3) and larger font sizes for the elderly, distributing them to senior centers and other locations.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "We have started providing the newsletter as audio files so that residents who find it difficult to subscribe to the print version can conveniently access district information," adding, "We will continue to seek customized district promotion methods that consider the needs of our residents."
