Seongdong-gu Conducts Safety Inspections on Road Facilities and Construction Sites Ahead of Lunar New Year
17 Road Facilities, 44 Road Slopes Including Retaining Walls, 105 Construction Sites, 40 Road Heating Lines, etc... Safety Inspections to be Completed by February 2 to Prevent Accidents and Ensure Safe Living Areas
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) will conduct safety inspections on road facilities such as road bridges and pedestrian overpasses, road slopes including retaining walls, and construction sites including smart snow removal systems until February 2nd in preparation for the Lunar New Year holiday.
From January 24th to February 2nd, safety inspections will be carried out on 17 road facilities including 3 road bridges, 5 pedestrian overpasses, 4 underpasses, and 5 underground walkways, as well as 44 road slopes including retaining walls.
The district establishes a road facility maintenance plan every year and conducts an average of 10 safety inspections annually to ensure a safe living environment for residents.
In particular, this year, smart snow removal systems such as 40 road heating cables installed on steep slopes and 4 automatic brine spraying devices will be inspected integrally to prevent inconvenience during cold waves and heavy snowfall over the holiday period.
Thirty-one civil engineering staff members from Seongdong-gu Office are organized into six teams to conduct visual inspections focusing on ▲ damage status of road facilities (structures) such as road bridges and pedestrian overpasses ▲ ground subsidence, leakage, cracks, and deformation of road facilities ▲ safety status of slope facilities such as rockfall joints ▲ drainage management status of safety inspection target facilities. In addition, they will check for any abnormalities in the mechanical and communication equipment of the smart snow removal systems to ensure continuous operation of the systems.
Simple and minor issues identified through safety inspections will be immediately addressed by the district’s road maintenance team, and if there is a risk of safety accidents, emergency measures will be taken to eliminate hazards followed by urgent repairs. If necessary, emergency safety inspections or detailed safety diagnoses will be conducted.
To raise awareness at construction sites and prevent safety accidents in advance, safety inspections will also be conducted on construction sites. The inspection targets 105 construction sites within the district and will be carried out over three weeks from January 15th to February 2nd. Among these, 25 sites including large and medium-sized construction sites in the area will be jointly inspected with external experts such as architectural engineers and construction safety engineers.
The inspections will focus on fire prevention status at construction sites, adequacy of quality control such as concrete pouring and curing, establishment and implementation of snow removal measures, prevention of suffocation accidents in confined winter spaces, securing rest areas for workers, and provision of thermal protective gear.
Issues pointed out during inspections are to be corrected immediately on site as a principle, and if serious defects or risk factors are found, emergency measures such as halting construction will be taken and managed until the risks are resolved.
