Yoon-Han Conflict Resolved?... 'Kim Geonhee Risk' Time Bomb Remains Intact
Yoon-Han Conflict Resolved After Three Days
Controversy Over Mrs. Kim's Luxury Bag Remains
If Left Unaddressed, Conflict Could Flare Up Anytime
The conflict between President Yoon Suk-yeol and Han Dong-hoon, the Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, was resolved after three days, but there are claims that if the 'Kim Geon-hee risk,' which was the trigger of the conflict, remains unaddressed, the spark of conflict could reignite at any time. Whether through explanations or clarifications, follow-up measures that can mitigate the 'Kim Geon-hee risk' need to be introduced.
Kim Min-soo, spokesperson for the People Power Party, said in an interview with MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' on the 24th, "The essence of this incident (the suspicion of Mrs. Kim's luxury goods receipt) is clearly a political conspiracy, and everyone in our camp agrees that illegal filming is involved." He added, "Nevertheless, if the public continues to misunderstand these aspects, there is also a consensus that some explanation is necessary." This is interpreted as a response in the same context as Chairman Han's earlier remark that the 'Kim Geon-hee risk' is "an issue to be considered from the public's perspective."
Shin Pyeong, a lawyer known as President Yoon's mentor, also said on the same day on SBS Radio's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show' that the 'Yoon-Han conflict' has not escalated but is not completely resolved. He diagnosed that the conflict arose as Chairman Han, who has weak centrist expansion power, tried to compensate by differentiating himself from President Yoon. He explained, "If we look at the luxury bag incident more objectively and without prejudice, it is clearly a political conspiracy," and added, "Chairman Han or his close aides should have come forward to inform the public of the truth of the incident and take appropriate measures, but they did not." He continued, "After clarifying that it was a hidden camera conspiracy, it would have been only natural for President Yoon or Mrs. Kim to express regret."
On the other hand, Kim Woong, a member of the People Power Party, interpreted the emerging picture of reconciliation between Yoon and Han as possible because "there was an implicit agreement not to mention issues such as Mrs. Kim's apology." Appearing on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show,' Kim suggested that a drastic solution, such as Mrs. Kim leaving the country or moving to the presidential residence, is necessary to resolve the 'Kim Geon-hee risk.'
He pointed out, "The very idea that the problem can be solved just by the hidden camera issue underestimates the public," and “When people think something is unfair, they naturally feel disgust, and the public currently holds emotions similar to that regarding this issue.” He added, "When the public feels anger because a person in power has committed such unfair acts, the only way is for the person in power to humble themselves and appear pitiable," advising, "For example, if Mrs. Kim leaves the presidential residence and temporarily stays at the Acrovista residence or abroad, this situation could be reversed."

The day before, President Yoon and Chairman Han had a conversation lasting about an hour on a dedicated train returning to Seoul from the fire site at Seocheon Market, but it is known that they did not mention the controversy over Mrs. Kim's receipt of luxury bags, which was the cause of the direct confrontation. After getting off the dedicated train, when asked by reporters whether the conflict between the two sides had been resolved, Chairman Han said, "I have deep respect and trust for the President, and that has not changed at all," but remained silent on the controversy over Mrs. Kim's luxury bag receipt.
