Geochang County Council Issues Statement Urging Enactment of Dalbit Railroad Special Act
The Geochang County Council in Gyeongnam issued a statement on the 23rd urging the swift enactment of the Dalbit Railroad Special Act, a long-cherished project for residents of Yeongnam and Honam regions.

View original imageThe Dalbit Railroad Special Act was jointly proposed in August 2023 by a record 261 lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties. It is a large-scale national project to build a railway network spanning six metropolitan autonomous regions and 10 cities, counties, and districts. The project holds great expectations from residents as it aims to resolve issues such as the concentration in the metropolitan area and the risk of regional extinction.
However, the Dalbit Railroad Special Act has been stalled and has not even been submitted to the National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee due to the preliminary feasibility study system based on economic viability and demand logic.

In response, the Geochang County Council strongly urged the National Assembly through the statement, saying, “We must create a new growth engine for the Republic of Korea through the Dalbit Railroad, which crosses east to west and connects the entire country,” and called for the prompt enactment of the Dalbit Railroad Special Act.
