District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon: "We Will Establish a Resource Circulation System and Discover Quality Senior Jobs Contributing to the Community"
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will assign senior citizens participating in job programs to 'Recycling Stations' and 'Clean Houses' to promote the spread of proper waste separation culture and encourage social participation among the elderly.
So far, the district has been operating Recycling Stations and Clean Houses as key disposal facilities in single-family and multi-family residential areas to prevent mixed waste disposal and illegal dumping.
Recycling Stations are designated for separated disposal of vinyl, paper, clear PET bottles, cans, and bottles, while Clean Houses allow not only separated disposal but also food waste disposal through individual weighing devices (RFID).
However, recently, mixed waste disposed indiscriminately has surged due to the increase in single-person households and delivery food. Without dedicated managers, the areas around Recycling Stations have become untidy, and recycling rates have been declining.
In response, the district will assign 50 senior job participants to each Recycling Station and Clean House. The plan aims not only to prevent illegal dumping and create a clean living environment but also to generate jobs for the elderly.
The seniors will be assigned to Recycling Stations or Clean Houses near their residences, maintaining cleanliness at each facility and guiding proper waste separation. They will receive 290,000 KRW for 30 hours of work per month, which is a 20,000 KRW increase compared to last year.
The recruitment target is basic pension recipients aged 65 or older, and recruitment will continue until the number of participants is met. Seniors wishing to participate can visit their local community service center or apply through the websites ‘Bokjiro’ and ‘Senior Job Here’.
Additionally, the district is promoting various projects to lead resource circulation activities, including ▲AI-based unmanned collection machines for clear PET bottles ▲battery exchange programs ▲clothing stations.
