Full Closure from February 14 to March 22 for Namhae Bridge Expansion Joint Replacement and Observation Deck Construction
Namhae-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 22nd that from February 14 to March 22, vehicle and pedestrian traffic will be completely prohibited on both directions of Namhae Bridge, covering approximately 1.5 km from Noryang Samgeori in Seolcheon-myeon, Namhae-gun to the Namhae Bridge roundabout in Geumnam-myeon, Hadong-gun, for the replacement of expansion joints and the construction of an observatory.
During this period, construction for the replacement of the expansion joints and the creation of the observatory on Namhae Bridge is scheduled, and safety measures are necessary to prevent accidents such as falls and falling objects during the construction.
In particular, the replacement of the expansion joints is urgently needed to ensure the safety and durability of Namhae Bridge, making it unavoidable to completely restrict not only vehicle traffic but also pedestrian access.
Additionally, Namhae-gun has decided to proceed with the expansion joint replacement and observatory construction simultaneously to minimize inconvenience to residents caused by the traffic ban. Considering the economic revitalization of Seolcheon-myeon and traffic volume, the restriction will begin after the Lunar New Year holiday and is planned to be completed before the spring tourist season.
Furthermore, since changes to existing bus routes are inevitable, temporary shuttle vehicles and temporary bus stops will be operated through multiple consultations with residents to minimize inconvenience for those using the bus.
A Namhae-gun official stated, “We will shorten the restriction period as much as possible through thorough progress management to minimize inconvenience to residents,” and added, “Since the restriction is unavoidable to ensure the safety of Namhae Bridge, which is a symbol of our county and the first suspension bridge in Korea, we ask for the broad understanding of the residents.”
