Handonghun "Refused to Resign as Emergency Committee Chair... Party Should Handle Party Matters, Government Should Handle Government Matters" (Update)
Han Dong-hoon, the Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, refused to resign on the 22nd. Chairman Han reaffirmed his intention to continue serving as the committee chairman until after the general election.
Before the Emergency Response Committee meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Chairman Han met with reporters and, when asked about the resignation demand and whether the Presidential Office intervened in party affairs, he said, "Since I have refused the resignation demand, I will not discuss specific details." This officially confirmed that there was a resignation demand.
He also mentioned, "I understand that my term continues until after the general election," indicating that he will not comply with the resignation demand. Regarding the trust issue between the party and the government, he said, "The party handles party affairs, and the government handles government affairs, which means politics for the people." This appears to express his intention not to be swayed by the Presidential Office concerning party-government issues.
When asked if there had been any change in his stance regarding the risk issue related to First Lady Kim Keon-hee, which is considered a fundamental cause of the trust breakdown between the party and the government, he said, "My position has never changed since the beginning."
