Hankyung Association Donates Relief Funds for Earthquake Damage Recovery in Japan's Noto Peninsula
Donation of approximately 670 million KRW delivered to the Korean Red Cross

The Korea Economic Association on the morning of the 22nd donated $500,000 (approximately 670 million KRW) to the Korean Red Cross for recovery efforts following the earthquake on the Noto Peninsula in Japan.

View original imageAt the donation ceremony held at 9 a.m. that day, Ryu Jin, chairman of the Korea Economic Association, said, "We express our deepest condolences to the victims and bereaved families of the earthquake," and added, "We hope for a swift recovery and a quick return to normal life for the people of Japan."
The earthquake occurred around 4:10 p.m. on January 1st in the Noto Peninsula, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. It measured 7.6 in magnitude, resulting in 232 deaths and 1,009 injuries. Approximately 9,600 houses were damaged. This is the first time in 100 years that a strong earthquake of magnitude 7.5 or higher has occurred inland in Japan since the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923.

Meanwhile, the Korean Red Cross plans to forward the donation received from the Korea Economic Association to its branch office in Japan at a later date.
