LG Electronics' 'AI Management System' Receives International Standard Certification... Recognized for Responsible Technology Use
Enhancing Trust in AI-Applied Products and Services
LG Electronics has been recognized for diligently fulfilling data security and ethical responsibilities throughout the entire process of developing AI-applied home appliances until disposal.
On the 19th, LG Electronics H&A Business Division received the 'AI Management System (ISO/IEC 42001)' certification from the Korea Standards Association. The certification ceremony held at the Korea Standards Association in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, was attended by Oh Se-gi, Head of LG Electronics H&A Research Center, and Kang Myung-soo, President of the Korea Standards Association, among others.

View original imageThe AI Management System is an international standard jointly established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) concerning the overall AI management framework. It evaluates whether organizations developing or using AI-based products or services systematically build AI systems and responsibly utilize AI throughout the entire process from planning to disposal. Detailed evaluation items include ▲ AI policy ▲ AI risk assessment ▲ AI risk treatment ▲ AI impact assessment ▲ AI ethics compliance and regulatory response.
Through obtaining this certification, LG Electronics has been recognized not only for controlling potential issues arising from AI products and services but also for ensuring AI-related security, fairness, transparency, and accountability. The company expects this certification to help enhance customer trust in products and services applying its advanced AI technology. Additionally, by applying international standards in the process of launching AI products and services, it anticipates strengthening its global competitiveness.
Ryu Jae-cheol, President of LG Electronics H&A Business Division, said, "Through establishing the AI management system, we will strengthen the planning and development processes of AI-related products and services," adding, "By responsibly managing data protection and AI ethics, we will enable customers to enjoy differentiated experiences with peace of mind."
Previously, LG Electronics was the first in the home appliance industry to receive the 'Deep Learning AI Verification' certification for Tromm washing and drying appliances from the global safety science company UL, and also obtained the 'AI Safety Certification' verifying the AI functional safety of the Tromm WashTower (model name: W17NT) from the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, continuously gaining recognition for its AI technology excellence.
