KCC announced on the 17th that Jeonju Plant 2 received the highest grade in the Process Safety Management (PSM) evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.
Jeonju Plant 2 upgraded from the previous S grade (Good) to the highest P grade (Excellent) in the PSM evaluation conducted in September last year. KCC explained that this achievement is the result of strengthening safety management through the operation of the EHS (Environment Health Safety) Committee, the highest deliberation and decision-making body in safety, environment, and health, since December 1, 2021, and the Chief Safety Officer (CSO), with sustainable management as a core value.
Process Safety Management is a system that comprehensively evaluates and manages whether safety management is faithfully implemented to prevent major industrial accidents such as fires, explosions, and leaks. A key factor is how systematically and continuously the facilities and processes of the workplace are managed to eliminate potential accident risk factors.
The evaluation criteria consist of four main categories: process safety information, process hazard analysis, safe operation plans, and emergency response plans. The evaluation grades are divided into four levels: P grade (Excellent), S grade (Good), M+ grade (Average), and M- grade (Poor). KCC Jeonju Plant 2 received an excellent evaluation in the process hazard analysis section and achieved the highest grade, ranking in the top 5% of all evaluated companies.
Jeonju Plant 2 was designated as a Green Company for the first time in the coatings industry in 2012 and has been re-designated for the fifth consecutive time (every three years) this year. Being a Green Company means pursuing economic benefits while emphasizing environmental protection and sustainability throughout all business activities, based on the commitment of all employees to practicing green management. Jeonju Plant 2 was recognized as a Green Company for its efforts in proactive environmental management, reducing pollutants, saving resources and energy, producing eco-friendly products, and establishing a green management system.
Jeonju Plant 2, one of KCC’s nine domestic business sites, has increased the production ratio of eco-friendly products such as water-based paints and floor epoxy paints like Unipoxy Lining, and reduced the unit emissions of chemical substances such as methanol and copper by about 20% compared to 2020 through investment in production facility improvements.
Additionally, it installed air pollution control facilities that combust volatile organic compounds at a high temperature of 800°C, decomposing and removing them into water and carbon dioxide, thereby managing the emission concentrations of air and water pollutants such as nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides to within 50% of the legal standards. Furthermore, it has been recognized for its green management achievements by improving greenhouse gas and waste generation, as well as water and energy usage.
