President Yoon Requests Postponement of Serious Accident Punishment Act... "Punishment Is Not the Only Solution"
President Yoon Suk-yeol requested the National Assembly on the 16th to pass a bill postponing the application of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act to workplaces with fewer than 50 employees.
At the Cabinet meeting presided over by President Yoon at the Yongsan Presidential Office that morning, he stated, "Starting from the 27th, the Serious Accidents Punishment Act will be expanded to workplaces with fewer than 50 employees, and small businesses on the ground feel as if they are being pushed onto thin ice."
President Yoon emphasized, "The government has prepared support measures for vulnerable sectors, and economic organizations have promised this is the last postponement request, but the National Assembly remains silent," adding, "While the safety of workers is undeniably important, punishment alone is not the answer."
He said, "Punishment must be based on clear responsibility principles according to our Constitution," and added, "Considering the practical conditions of small and medium-sized enterprises, more time should be given."
President Yoon continued, "There are only about ten days left, not a long time," and urged, "Please listen once more to the difficulties faced on the ground."
