100% Bunker Save Rate Over Four Days Drives Victory
Grayson Murray (USA) is a player who attracts 'attention' off the field. He is known for issues such as alcohol addiction and traffic accidents. In 2021, he mocked Kevin Na (USA), who was active on the PGA Tour, for his slow pace of play. Last year, he strongly criticized Jay Monahan, the PGA Tour commissioner, who was pushing for a merger with LIV Golf.

On the 14th (local time), he topped the PGA Tour Sony Open (total prize money $8.3 million) held at Waialae Country Club (par 70, 7,044 yards) in Honolulu, Hawaii. He edged out Byeong-Hun An and Keegan Bradley (USA) in a playoff. This is his second PGA Tour win since the Barbasol Championship in July 2017, with a winner's prize of $1,494,000 (about 2 billion KRW).
At the Sony Open, Murray showcased an outstanding short game using Mizuno T24 wedges (52, 56, 60 degrees). His bunker saves were 100% over four days. Although he landed in greenside bunkers 12 times, he successfully saved every time. Notably, on the final day at the 17th hole (par 3), he hit his tee shot into the bunker but still made par. On the last 18th hole (par 5), his third shot with a wedge from 78 yards landed 80 cm from the hole, forcing the playoff.
Murray's winning weapon, the Mizuno T24 wedge, features a one-piece forged head. It offers excellent feel and durability. It applies Quad Cut Plus groove technology to enhance spin performance. Additionally, it includes Hydroflow micro grooves, which enable consistent play even in wet conditions where the club or ball is damp. The head shape is more compact compared to previous models, providing psychological stability to golfers at address. It is manufactured using the proprietary Grain Flow Forged HD forging method, which extends the groove's lifespan and delivers consistent spin performance.
