Seoul National University College of Medicine's Ahn Cheol-soo: "Lee Jae-myung Seems Able to Speak... Reveal Medical Evidence for Absence"
Lee discharged 8 days after stabbing attack on the 2nd
Ahn "Medically speaking, no apparent issues"
Ahn Cheol-soo, a member of the People Power Party who graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine, raised questions about Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who did not attend a trial after being discharged from the hospital following a stabbing attack.
On the 14th, Ahn posted on Facebook, "It must be clearly explained on what medical grounds this is based," adding, "Otherwise, it only appears to be another 'bulletproof' excuse to delay the trial verdict, following the previous hunger strike."
He stated, "Damage to the carotid artery is very dangerous, but according to the surgeon, the injured area is the jugular vein, and there is no damage to the nerves, esophagus, or airway," and added, "Therefore, medically speaking, there is no reason to hinder speech, and even looking at Leader Lee, who gave a statement upon discharge, he does not appear to have any difficulty speaking."
He continued, "In Leader Lee’s public office election law violation case, the first trial is supposed to be sentenced within six months, but the first trial has been ongoing for one year and five months since he was indicted in September 2022," and evaluated, "It is fortunate that Leader Lee did not suffer greater misfortune from the slow-flowing vein injury, but dragging out the trial slowly is not just."
Ahn concluded, "Leader Lee said upon discharge that his life was saved by the people and promised to repay by creating a world where we live together, a country where everyone is happy and dreams of hope. If he contemplated such a great purpose in the hospital room, I hope he will attend the trial confidently and request a swift verdict before the general election," adding, "Both blood and trials must move to live. If blood and trials stop, one dies."
Leader Lee was stabbed in the left neck by Kim (67) during a visit to Gadukdo, Busan, on the morning of the 2nd, underwent surgery and hospitalization, and was discharged on the 10th. He is currently recovering at home.

Upon discharge from Seoul National University Hospital on the 10th, Leader Lee said, "I will surely repay by creating a world where we live together, a country where everyone is happy and dreams of hope," and added, "I sincerely hope that this shocking incident will become a milestone to end politics of hatred and confrontation and restore proper politics based on mutual respect and coexistence. We must now end this war-like politics where opponents must be killed and eliminated."
