On the 12th (local time), HD Hyundai announced that it held a 'Cooperation Ceremony for the Development of a Connectivity Platform for Smart Construction Equipment and an Autonomous Construction Site Platform' with AWS at CES 2024, the world's largest consumer electronics and IT exhibition held in Las Vegas, USA.
The event was attended by key figures including Lee Dong-wook, President of HD Hyundai Site Solutions, and Yasser Alsaied, Vice President of AWS Engineering.
Through this collaboration, HD Hyundai Site Solutions will first build a connectivity platform for smart construction equipment developed by HD Hyundai Site Solutions in cooperation with AWS. The developed platform will be applied to next-generation construction equipment, supporting core smart functions that enhance the safety and productivity of construction machinery.
AWS will provide technology support to continuously improve Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and services, as well as AI (artificial intelligence) and machine learning capabilities for the platform configuration. This platform is expected to be applied to next-generation integrated models to be launched by HD Hyundai Construction Equipment and HD Hyundai Infracore starting in 2025.
Additionally, the two companies agreed to collaborate on ‘X-Wise Xite,’ an AI-based construction site management solution showcased by HD Hyundai at CES 2024. X-Wise Xite collects various data from construction equipment and sites to improve productivity and safety, ultimately aiming for automation of construction sites.
HD Hyundai expects that the solutions developed through this collaboration will increase construction site productivity by approximately 30% to 70% and significantly enhance site safety through unmanned operations. Furthermore, leveraging this partnership, HD Hyundai is considering expanding cloud utilization to other affiliates such as shipbuilding and marine sectors.
Lee Dong-wook, President of HD Hyundai Site Solutions, said, “We believe that partnering with AWS, which possesses the world’s leading cloud technology, will accelerate innovation in unmanned autonomy at future construction sites. This collaboration will mark a new milestone for HD Hyundai as it advances not only as a manufacturer but also as a comprehensive solution provider.”
Yasser Alsaied, Vice President of AWS IoT, stated, “We are very pleased to collaborate with HD Hyundai, which is expanding the scope of innovation from maritime to land sectors for a sustainable future for humanity. We look forward to broadening the scope of our cooperation in various ways going forward.”
