North Korea Sends Delegation to Non-Aligned Movement Summit in Uganda... Strengthening Anti-American Solidarity
International Organization Countering Major Powers... Intent to Establish Image as a Normal State
North Korea has dispatched a government delegation to the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit, scheduled to be held in Kampala, Uganda, from the 15th to the 20th, according to a report by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on the 14th.
KCNA reported that "a delegation led by Kim Son-kyong, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and government special envoy, departed from Pyongyang on the 13th." The delegation is believed to have traveled to Uganda via Beijing, China.
The Non-Aligned Movement is an international organization established to oppose major powers and imperialism, with about 120 developing countries participating.
This NAM Summit will be held with a senior officials meeting on the 15th and 16th, a ministerial meeting on the 17th and 18th, and a heads of state and government meeting on the 19th and 20th. The North Korean delegation is likely to attend only the senior officials meeting.
This delegation dispatch is interpreted as a faithful implementation of the New Year's directive by Chairman Kim Jong-un to strengthen anti-American solidarity. It also appears to be intended to establish an image as a normal state through the full-scale commencement of diplomacy with anti-American countries.
North Korea has consistently sent delegations to related meetings in the past. In 2019, Choe Ryong-hae, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly, attended the 18th NAM Summit held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Meanwhile, KCNA also reported that the North Korean delegation will participate in the 3rd South-South Summit (Developing Countries Summit), held at the same location.
