Korail Lunar New Year Train Ticket Reservation Rate at 52.9%... Highest Number of Returnees on February 9
Reserved Tickets Must Be Paid by Midnight on the 14th
This year, Korail's reservation rate for Lunar New Year train tickets was recorded at 52.9%. The day with the highest number of returning travelers is February 9, the first day of the holiday.
On the 12th, Korea Railroad Corporation announced that from February 8 to 11, a four-day period of Lunar New Year ticket reservations, 881,000 out of 1.66 million seats were sold. The reservation rate of 52.9% is higher than last year's Lunar New Year rate (44.1%) and Chuseok rate (50.2%).
On the last day of the Lunar New Year holiday, the 27th, returning travelers are getting off the train at Seoul Station and heading home.

The day with the most returning travelers is February 9, the first day of the holiday, with a downward line reservation rate of 86.2% (Gyeongbu Line 91.1%, Honam Line 91.6%). The highest reservation rate for returning home is on the last day of the holiday, February 12. The upward line reservation rate on the last day of the holiday is 82.5% (Gyeongbu Line 88.8%, Honam Line 89.1%).
The number of seats reserved for transportation-vulnerable passengers during the Lunar New Year holiday increased by about 27,000 seats from last year's 52,000 seats to about 78,000 seats. Phone reservations doubled compared to last year, and internet reservations increased by 1.5 times. Korail expanded the supply of seats by 20% to increase reservation opportunities for transportation-vulnerable passengers, allocated seats exclusively for phone reservations, and extended the reservation period from one day to two days.
Lunar New Year holiday reserved tickets must be paid for by midnight on the 14th. Tickets not paid for within the period will be automatically canceled and allocated to waiting list applicants. Remaining seats can be purchased on the Korail website, mobile app, station counters, and automatic ticket machines.
From this year, payment through the railroad customer center counselors is also possible. Korail conducted phone ticket reservations on February 8-9 for seniors, disabled persons, and national merit recipients. After payment, passengers can pick up their tickets at the station ticket office before the train departs. As before, passengers can visit the nearest station ticket office with their ID for on-site payment.

Korail will also strengthen crackdowns on unfair train ticket transactions to prevent ticket scalping during the Lunar New Year holiday. Online secondhand trading sites will be closely monitored, and a ticket scalping report channel will be operated. During last year's Chuseok period, 52 reports of ticket scalping were received, and immediate deletion requests were made to the respective sites. Two sellers who could be identified were expelled from membership and investigations were requested from the police.
