Jung-gu, New Year Lunar New Year Explanation Meeting Resident Well-Wishing Relay... 'Festival of Laughter Blossoms'
The scene at the New Year’s Lunar New Year briefing session held on the 11th at Shinsegae Namsan Trinity Hall by Jung-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gil-seong) was truly a festival of cheers and laughter.
At the relay-style event where about 60 residents shared New Year’s well-wishes, the most frequently mentioned words were ‘health, my side, Blue Dragon, hope, happiness, luck, fighting, jackpot, and laughter.’ With all 500 seats in the venue fully occupied, residents embraced and comforted each other on the warm and friendly stage of well-wishes.
People from all walks of life took the stage to exchange unique well-wishes, but all shared the same heart in wishing for the residents’ well-being and the development of the community.
The well-wishes ranged from “Be healthy and happy in the New Year,” to energetic cheers like “Let’s shout ‘My side Jung-gu’ three times,” and “Jung-gu fighting,” expressing hopes for the luck that the Year of the Blue Dragon will bring.
Encouraging remarks mentioning the achievements Jung-gu has accomplished together with its residents, such as the relaxation of Namsan height restrictions, designation of Myeongdong as a free outdoor advertising zone, and the passing of private investment review for the Hoehyeon-dong administrative complex town construction project, also drew attention.
The audience gave big applause to residents who kept their speeches within the 30-second limit. Even when their time was up, the sight of residents steadfastly pouring out their prepared well-wishes, saying “I must say this,” caused bursts of laughter.
Before the event, Jung-gu Mayor Kim Gil-seong shook hands with all attending residents one by one, delivering New Year greetings. In his New Year’s address, he shared the news that Jung-gu was recognized with the Presidential Award as the ‘Nationwide No. 1’ in local government productivity, a result of hard work alongside residents over the past year, and celebrated with them. He also promised to become a ‘reliable partner’ in residents’ lives in the New Year, to get ‘closer’ to them, to create a ‘safe Jung-gu’ to protect residents, and to further enhance the city’s competitiveness so that Jung-gu becomes a ‘source of pride for its citizens.’
A district official expressed gratitude, saying, “This event was sponsored by Woori Bank and Shinsegae, which allowed it to proceed more smoothly and richly.”
