View original imageThe KAIST Alumni Association (President Jeong Chil-hee) announced on the 12th that this year's recipients of the 'KAIST Proud Alumni Award' are Kwon Hyuk-woong, Vice Chairman and CEO of Hanwha Ocean Co., Ltd., Kim Young-jae, CEO and President of Daeduck Co., Ltd., Kim Jang-sung, President of the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, and Lee Tae-eok, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at KAIST.
According to the KAIST Alumni Association, Kwon Hyuk-woong, CEO of Hanwha Ocean, played a key role in leading the growth of Hanwha Group's energy business by serving as CEO of Hanwha Energy and Hanwha Total, and significantly contributed to the successful acquisition and management normalization of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, a long-standing challenge for Hanwha Group. Kim Young-jae, CEO of Daeduck, has dedicated 40 years to the Korean printed circuit board industry and has grown Daeduck Electronics into a solid electronic components specialist company with annual sales of 1 trillion won. Kim Jang-sung, President of the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, demonstrated outstanding leadership in establishing the national mid- to long-term bio plans and policies. Lee Tae-eok, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at KAIST, made significant contributions to enhancing the competitiveness of the semiconductor wafer (silicon wafer) and semiconductor display manufacturing industries.

The KAIST Proud Alumni Award is presented by the Alumni Association to alumni who have contributed to national and social development or have brought honor to their alma mater through outstanding academic achievements and social service. Since 1992, a total of 122 recipients have been honored. The award ceremony will be held on the 13th at The-K Hotel in Seoul during the 2024 KAIST Alumni Association New Year's Gathering.
