Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, "We Will Do Our Best to Make Mapo a Great Place to Have and Raise Children"
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) operates the ‘Nutrition Plus Project’ at the Sunshine Center within the Mapo-gu Public Health Center to promote balanced nutrition intake for pregnant women and infants, and is recruiting new participants.
Opened in July last year, the Sunshine Center provides step-by-step services covering the entire process of pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting in one place, gaining great popularity. The Nutrition Plus Project, which addresses health issues of pregnant women and infants, is also operated alongside, receiving enthusiastic responses from residents.
The Nutrition Plus support targets pregnant women, postpartum and breastfeeding mothers, and infants up to 6 years old (72 months) residing in Mapo-gu. Applicants must have a household income at or below 80% of the median income based on household size and possess nutritional risk factors such as anemia, underweight, growth retardation, or poor nutritional intake status.
Selected participants receive systematic nutrition education and counseling every month, and for 6 to a maximum of 12 months, they are provided with nutrient-rich supplementary foods such as formula, rice, potatoes, eggs, milk, and seaweed to supplement nutrients that may be lacking in their regular diet.
Additionally, regular nutritional assessments are conducted at the beginning, mid-term, and end of the project period to monitor changes in participants’ nutritional risk factors and nutritional status.
Furthermore, Mapo-gu plans to expand various theoretical and cooking demonstration education programs this year, including making snacks and baby food using supplementary foods, to deliver useful nutritional knowledge to participants.
For more detailed information about the Nutrition Plus Project, inquiries can be made at the Nutrition Counseling Room of the Sunshine Center within the Mapo-gu Public Health Center.
