Gurye-gun Expands Taechu Persimmon Production Complex
High Sugar Content and Color Development in Sweet Persimmons Due to Fertile Soil and Large Temperature Differences
Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it is leading the increase of farmers' income by establishing early-ripening Taechu persimmon orchards, a climate change response strategy income crop.
The cultivation area of Gurye Taechu persimmons is 17.6ha. The county plans to add 4.5ha this year and expand the cultivation area in the future.
The natural conditions of Gurye are favorable for producing high-quality persimmons.
The soil is fertile and the temperature difference between day and night is large, resulting in good coloring and high sugar content of the persimmons.
In addition, the flesh is soft and the taste is good, gaining high popularity among consumers.
Last year, the county was selected for the 'Customized Future Strategic Income Crop Development Pilot Project' organized by the Jeollanam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services.
The county is investing a total of 400 million KRW over two years to introduce labor-saving new technologies and cultivate Taechu persimmons as a high value-added specialized crop.
The county is accepting applications for the persimmon production complex project tailored to consumer trends until February 2.
Farmers and farmer organizations residing in Gurye-gun before the announcement date are eligible to apply.
Applications can be submitted by downloading the form from the Agricultural Technology Center or the county office website's notice section, filling it out, and visiting the Agricultural Technology Center's horticultural crop team or the town/village agricultural counseling office.
County Governor Kim Soon-ho said, "We will develop agriculture into a sustainable future growth industry by fostering high-income specialized crops that respond to climate change and agri-food consumption trends."
