Bucheon City Secures 395 Parking Spaces Using Schools and Vacant Lots... Saves 60 Billion Won Budget
Bucheon City in Gyeonggi secured 395 parking spaces last year by utilizing schools and vacant lots.
The city announced on the 11th that it has created a total of 395 parking spaces at 17 locations, including 616 Ojeong-dong, 172-1 Chunui-dong, Yeokgok Middle School, and Bucheon Middle School, by promoting the projects of 'Creating Parking Lots Using Idle Spaces' and 'Opening Parking Lots.'
The project to create parking lots using idle spaces involves signing land use agreements with the owners of vacant lots, and the city invests construction costs to build the parking lots. Landowners receive the benefit of a full exemption from property tax on their land portion during the agreement period (initially 3 years), and the city can alleviate parking difficulties in the old downtown area through the creation of parking lots.

Additionally, the parking lot opening project is promoted by signing usage agreements for attached parking lots of public and private facilities with the facility management entities. The facility managers receive maintenance and facility support necessary for parking lot operation, and the city can enhance citizens' parking convenience by sharing the parking lots.
In particular, considering that constructing a flat parking lot by purchasing land costs about 150 million KRW per parking space from the city budget, this project has achieved a budget saving effect of approximately 60 billion KRW for the 395 parking spaces.
