Gwanak-gu Women's 50-Year Journey 'Her Story' Second Edition Published
Gwanak 'Her Story' Second Edition Published (Title: Living 50 Years in Gwanak)... Documenting the Past, Present, and Future of Eight Women Who Have Lived in Gwanak for Over 50 Years Alongside Gwanak's History
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) has published the second story of the ‘Her Story’ Book (Title: Living 50 Years in Gwanak).
Gwanak-gu was selected as a Women-Friendly City in 2019. The ‘Gwanak Her Story Oral History Project’ is one of the five major goals of the Women-Friendly City initiative, aimed at strengthening women’s capacity for community activities and recording the lives of local women as life oral historians to pass down to future generations.
This is the first archive-building project in a Seoul autonomous district that features women as the main protagonists.
It reexamines the roles and contributions of women in the process of regional development and contributes to fostering women’s pride and spreading a culture of gender equality through fair evaluation.
It is significant in that women actively participated in the project, leading to its successful implementation. In November last year, it was selected as an excellent case of women-friendly policies in the ‘2023 Women-Friendly City Policy Case Video Content Development Project’ promoted by the Korean Institute for Gender Equality Promotion and Education, resulting in participation in related video production.
The ‘Her Story’ Book, Living 50 Years in Gwanak, features eight women who participated in the recording, capturing the past, present, and future stories of these eight women.
▲ ‘We are truly the driving force of industrialization’ ? Master of Learning Park Tae-joo (Recorder: Park Hoo-ran) ▲ ‘That feeling never changed until I died’ ? 53 years of positive Byeong-soon’s life in Nangok (Recorder: Kwon Hyun-hee) ▲ From poverty as a beautiful identity, life continuing from Samsung-dong Bamgol Village to the Silver Love Room, Park Sung-shin (Recorder: Lim Da-yoon), and other diverse women settled in Gwanak vividly recorded their experiences and changes in the region.
More detailed stories can be found on the Gwanak-gu website’s ‘Her Story Oral History Archive,’ and the book will also be available at Gwanak-gu libraries as well as the National Library of Korea.
Additionally, this year, a professional oral history recording training course for ‘Gwanak Her Story’ will be operated targeting ▲ women residing in Gwanak ▲ women whose careers have been interrupted due to childcare, and ▲ women interested in writing but who have not experienced oral history recording.
