Jeonnam Fire Department Conducted 1,028 Rescue Operations for Natural Disasters in 2023
Jeonnam Fire Department conducted over 1,000 life-saving operations due to natural disasters throughout 2023.
According to the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Hong Young-geun) on the 10th, weather alert activities last year, including typhoons and heavy rains in summer, as well as heavy snow and cold waves in winter, were recorded at 1,028 cases.
The dispatches included 74 rescue and emergency medical services, 954 safety measures such as house flooding and icicle removal, with 150 people evacuated, 74 rescued at disaster sites, and 93 emergency transports.
Jeonnam Fire Department is promoting proactive measures in response to weather alerts by conducting reconnaissance of high-risk areas and forward deployment of 119 special rescue teams when weather alerts and forecasts are issued.
As of January, winter natural disaster measures such as cold waves and heavy snow are ongoing, with particular strengthening of emergency patient transport systems for cold-related illnesses and 119 safety activities including prevention of water pipe freezing.
