The Korea Securities Depository announced on the 10th that the number of listed companies that conducted stock par value changes last year was 28, including Dongin Giyun, which is 8 fewer than the previous year.
Par value changes are divided into stock splits, which divide the par value of stocks by a certain ratio, and reverse stock splits, which combine par values to increase the par value. Stock splits are carried out to increase the number of shares and improve the liquidity of stock trading, while reverse stock splits are conducted to raise the par value and enhance the corporate image.
By market, the KOSPI market had 14 companies, an increase of 1 compared to the previous year, whereas the KOSDAQ market had 14 companies, a decrease of 9 compared to the previous year.
By type of par value change, 16 companies conducted stock splits, and 12 companies conducted reverse stock splits. In the KOSPI market, 4 companies split their par value from 5,000 won to 500 won, which was the most common, and 2 companies combined their par value from 500 won to 2,500 won. In the KOSDAQ market, 4 companies split their par value from 500 won to 100 won, and 3 companies combined their par value from 500 won to 2,500 won.
The par value of 500 won was the most common, accounting for 50.4% in the KOSPI market and 76.3% in the KOSDAQ market.
As of the end of December last year, six types of par value stocks?100 won, 200 won, 500 won, 1,000 won, 2,500 won, 5,000 won?and no-par value stocks were traded in the securities market.
The distribution of par values by market showed that in the KOSPI market, 500 won (50.4%), 5,000 won (28.5%), and 1,000 won (12.9%) were the most common. In the KOSDAQ market, 500 won (76.3%), 100 won (17.8%), and 1,000 won (2.2%) were the most common.
