Haenam-gun Conducts Special Inspection of Foreign Seasonal Worker Program
Temporary Suspension of Worker Entry... Expansion of Invitation Program for Marriage Immigrants
Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, has decided to temporarily suspend the seasonal worker introduction program established through MOUs between foreign local governments amid allegations of wage exploitation by foreign seasonal worker brokers. In addition, a special inspection will be conducted to determine if there are any additional damages.
According to the county on the 10th, about 420 foreign seasonal workers entered Haenam-gun last year through business agreements between foreign local governments, most of whom have completed short-term seasonal work of five months and returned home.
However, for the foreign seasonal workers currently working in Haenam-gun, the operation will continue until their stay period expires in order to minimize damage to farms.
Meanwhile, the seasonal work program in which marriage immigrants in Haenam-gun invite their family and relatives from their home countries has no room for brokers to intervene and has received strong support from farms, so it will continue to be expanded. Last year, about 200 workers entered through family and relative invitations.

A county official stated, “The foreign seasonal worker program has been well received, with most workers diligently performing their duties and returning this year through farm recommendations for re-entry. We regret that such an unfortunate incident has occurred. Since there is some time until the spring farming season, we will conduct thorough inspections to improve any issues and decide whether to resume the foreign seasonal worker program established through MOUs.”
