Gochang-gun Accepts Prepayment Applications for 'Diesel Vehicle Environmental Improvement Charge' Until the 31st

Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk Province, is accepting applications for the annual prepayment (lump-sum payment) of the environmental improvement charge from owners of old 4th and 5th grade diesel vehicles (some vehicles exempt) until the 31st of this month.

According to the county on the 10th, the environmental improvement charge prepayment system allows for a 10% discount on the environmental improvement charge for one year’s use covering the second half of the previous year and the first half of the current year if the full charge, normally imposed and paid twice a year in March and September, is paid in a lump sum in January.

The environmental improvement charge is calculated differently based on the vehicle’s engine displacement, degree of aging, and region. Diesel vehicles released after March 2012 are classified as Euro 5 or Euro 6 vehicles and are exempt from the charge.

This year’s prepayment can be applied for and paid immediately through Wetax starting from the 16th. Applications through the relevant eup/myeon offices and the Gochang-gun Environmental Hygiene Division can be submitted until the 31st.

For those who have previously applied for prepayment, the prepayment bill will be sent automatically.

The payment deadline is the 31st, and payment methods include online payment via Wetax, payment at financial institutions after receiving the prepayment bill, or account transfer using the virtual account number indicated on the bill.

A county official said, “We hope many residents will benefit from the 10% discount by applying for the environmental improvement charge prepayment, and we hope there will be no confusion as this is processed separately from the local tax prepayment application.”
