NC, TL Account Theft Incident Occurs... "Security Enhancement Measures"
NCSoft's new MMORPG 'Throne and Liberty' (TL) has experienced a series of damages suspected to be caused by overseas account theft.
On the afternoon of the 8th, the NCSoft 'TL' management team announced, "We have confirmed a recent increase in attempts to access others' accounts and related damage cases," and stated, "We will change the login criteria so that all customers must subscribe to the device registration security service to use the game."
Previously, posts appeared on online communities and the TL homepage reporting that in-game currency called Lucent had disappeared. Lucent is the currency used in TL, which players use to trade items with each other in the in-game marketplace or to purchase paid items at special shops.
The account thieves reportedly exploited a method where they listed low-value items at high prices in the in-game marketplace, then logged in with the stolen accounts to buy those items, thereby stealing Lucent.
The management conducted an emergency maintenance on the same day and guided users to report any damages caused by account theft through a separate reporting center.
