Sacheon Mayor Park Dong-sik Issues Statement on the Passage of the Space Aviation Agency Special Act by the Science and ICT Committee
Operation of Aerospace Complex City Construction Preparation Team
Sincerely Welcome the Passage through the Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee
Park Dongsik, Mayor of Sacheon City, Gyeongnam Province, issued a statement on the 8th expressing his welcome for the passage of the Aerospace Administration Special Act through the Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting and Communications Committee.
In the statement, Mayor Park said, “I sincerely welcome the passage of the Aerospace Administration Special Act, which had been referred to the National Assembly last April and had not passed despite long discussions, through the relevant committee, the Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting and Communications Committee,” and expressed his gratitude.
He then requested, “I ask for the active interest and magnanimous judgment of both ruling and opposition lawmakers so that it can pass the plenary session of the National Assembly.”
He added, “If the special act passes the plenary session of the National Assembly, a dedicated aerospace organization will be established in our country,” and promised, “We will do our best together with Gyeongnam Province to make 2024 the year of Korea’s aerospace leap forward.”
On that day, Mayor Park said, “Although it is a late start, Korea’s space development will advance faster as it has waited a long time,” and stated, “Through the full-scale fostering of the aerospace sector centered on the Aerospace Administration, Korea will proudly take its place as a leading aerospace nation.”
Sacheon City plans to thoroughly prepare for the era of the Aerospace Administration by proactively promoting the basic urban development plan for the creation of an aerospace complex city and operating a construction preparation team for the aerospace complex city together with Gyeongnam Province.
Meanwhile, the Korean-style NASA, the Aerospace Administration Special Act, has been adjusted through the agenda coordination committee and working-level meetings since it was referred to the National Assembly last April.
However, despite evaluations that the adjustments were completed, the delay in the bill’s review raised concerns in academia and industry related to aerospace that the bill itself might be scrapped.
