Muan-gun O Seung-woo Art Museum Selected as Certified Public Art Museum by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Evaluation
There Are Only Two Art Museums in Jeonnam Region, Including Muan-gun O Seung-woo Art Museum
The Osungwoo Art Museum in Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) was selected as a certified institution in the 2023 Public Museum and Art Museum Evaluation and Certification conducted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism last year.
According to the county on the 8th, the 2023 Public Art Museum Evaluation and Certification targeted 67 institutions nationwide (public art museums registered for more than 3 years). In October, a document review was conducted, followed by on-site evaluations and a review by the judging committee in November, ultimately selecting only 40 institutions.
Among the art museums subject to this certification evaluation, there are a total of 8 in the Jeollanam-do region. Of these, only 2 art museums in Jeollanam-do, including the Muan-gun Osungwoo Art Museum, passed the certification evaluation.
The Muan-gun Osungwoo Art Museum was highly evaluated for its efforts to revitalize the museum, including planning exhibitions and operating educational programs from 2020 to 2022, promoting external cooperative projects, researching local artists and archive materials, collecting and managing collections, attracting visitors, and promoting the museum, which enabled it to obtain certification.
The Public Museum and Art Museum Evaluation and Certification is conducted once every three years by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to improve the qualitative level of museum and art museum operations. Certification is determined by evaluating five categories: △achievement of establishment objectives △appropriateness of organization, personnel, facilities, and financial management △thoroughness of collection and management of materials △performance of exhibitions and educational programs △public responsibility.
Based on the evaluation results, excellent art museums are issued certificates, and certified art museums may display this fact and related information. The validity period is three years, from January 1 of this year to December 31, 2026.
A county official said, “We will continue to prepare so that local residents can view artworks through high-quality exhibitions and experience art through various educational programs.”
