Biden to Deliver State of the Union Address to US Congress on March 7
President Joe Biden will deliver his fourth-year State of the Union address to the U.S. Congress on March 7 (local time).
On the 7th, President Biden announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he had accepted the invitation from House Speaker Mike Johnson to deliver the State of the Union address. Earlier, Speaker Johnson had requested President Biden on the previous day to give the address on March 7.
This State of the Union address will take place amid strong prospects that President Biden will face a rematch against former President Donald Trump, a Republican, in the upcoming November presidential election. Additionally, this timing is just two days after the so-called "Super Tuesday" (March 5), when the largest number of states hold their primaries, and when former President Trump is expected to effectively secure the Republican nomination.
Accordingly, President Biden is expected to focus his address on former President Trump, highlighting the crisis facing American democracy and emphasizing the need for action to prevent it. Local media anticipate that he will also raise key election policy issues such as expanding efforts to alleviate healthcare, student loan, and housing debt, implementing a minimum tax on billionaires, and increasing the stock buyback tax.
